DISGAEA - HOUR OF DARKNESS Generic FAQ By Jamic (jamic77@netcourrier.com) v 2.0 - 09/19/2005 ############## A - DISCLAIMER ############## This FAQ is free of rights. You can take it, change it, or do whatever you like with it, I don't care. All I ask is for you to 1) don't use it for money-making purposes 2) mention somewhere that I wrote it based on infos found at GameFAQs This FAQ is meant to conveniently regroup in one place most of the infos that I've often seen asked at GameFAQs. This means that all the infos you'll see here have been found by other people. I simply organized and rewrote those infos. This FAQ won't tell you how to play. Its purpose is to help you understand how things work in this game, and to answer some in-depth issues. YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO KNOW EVERY BASIC INFO, so I won't answer any question like "what's the Item World ?" or "how do I use the Dark Assembly ?" I won't go too much into details either : other people have made FAQs addressing specific issues ; all you have to do is browse the FAQs page at GameFAQs. If you think I forgot something, you can contact me at the above address. ##################### B - TABLE OF CONTENTS ##################### A - DISCLAIMER B - TABLE OF CONTENTS C - FAQ 0 - MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS 1 - VOCABULARY 2 - ITEMS/EQUIPMENT 3 - ITEM WORLD 4 - SPECIALISTS/RESIDENTS 5 - CHARACTERS 6 - DARK ASSEMBLY AND TRANSMIGRATION 7 - ABILITIES AND SPELLS 8 - ENDINGS AND NEW GAME + 9 - MISCELLANEOUS D - THANKS ####### C - FAQ ####### =================================== 0 - MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS =================================== Q : How can I get a Legendary Cosmic Blade ? A : To get a LCB, if you're lucky, you can steal one from the enemies in the Item World or get one in the Bonus Gauge. If you're unlucky, you can steal it from the IG on floor 100 in a Legendary Amano Hahakiri. ============== Q : Do Specialists stack ? A : Yes, but if they have a level cap, it's useless to stack them over this cap. Examples : - having three lv50 Statisticians is like having one lv 150 Statistician - having three lv100 Statisticians is like having one lv 300 Statistician - having three lv150 Statisticians is like having one lv 300 Statistician - having three lv19998 Gladiators is like having one lv 59994 Gladiator Also, for level cap issues, it doesn't matter whether or not they're on the same item : having one Statistician on your sword and another on your armor is the same as having them both on your sword. ============== Q : How do I steal ? A : 1) Buy or find stealing hands 2) Put them in you inventory (DON'T try to equip them : you can't) 3) Use them in battle against the enemy you wanna rob ===================== Q : Will I like this game ? A : How am I supposed to know ? ============== Q : Should I get this game ? A : Of course not ! Rather, you should get a brain and go read the numerous non-biased reviews available across the Web to make your own opinion instead of asking a bunch of die-hard fans if their favorite game is good. ============== Q : What should I buy : this game or another ? A : Once again, if you're unable to find and analyse the tons of infos available on the Web, buy a brain. ============== Q : Should I buy or rent this game ? A : Oh, enough already ! If you don't know what to do with your money, then give it to me, and I promise I'll find a way to use it. ============== 1 - VOCABULARY ============== AoE : Area of effect BoE : Beauty of Evil The best levelling map when CoO3 stops being interesting. BP : Bonus Points The points you can add to the base stats when creating a new character or transmigrating. CoO : Cave of Ordeal One of the bonus areas. CoO3 : The third map of CoO The best levelling maps until lv 2000-2500. DA : Dark Assembly (sometimes used for Dark Adonis, too) DJB (or simply DJ) : DoubleJump Books The company who made Disgaea's OSG. DM : Divine Majin EDF : Earth Defense Force GP : Geo Panel GS : Geo Symbol HL : Hell The currency used in the Netherworld. IG : Item God IG2 : Item God 2 IW : Item World HD : Hyperdrive A character who equips this item can teleport anywhere on the map, except the Item World's Exit Panels. KK : King Krichevskoy LCB : Legendary Cosmic Blade The Rank 39 sword. You need that weapon to get a Yoshi. LPT (or LP) : La Pucelle Tactics MK : Makai Kingdom N1 : Nippon Icchi The company who made Disgaea NG : New Game NG+ : New Game + OSG : Official Strategy Guide PB : Phantom Brave Rouge : French word for "Red". Also a way-too-common mispelling for "Rogue". SP : Skill Point or Space Pirate (the highest tier of the Thief class) SRS : Super Robot Suit The best stat-boosting item. UPB : Über Prinny Baal One of the secret bosses and the most powerful enemy in this game. Yoshi : Yoshi-tsuna (without the -) The best weapon in the game. =================== 2 - ITEMS/EQUIPMENT =================== Q : What happens if I get an item when my inventory is full ? A : You can buy this item next time you enter a shop. Warning : this is one-time-only, so if you leave the shop without buying this item, it won't reappear (yes, even the Hyperdrive). Also, note that this doesn't work for the items you get from the Bonus Gauge. ============== Q : What is the best weapon/armor/whatever, and how do I get it ? A : I will only list what I consider the "must-have" stuff. BEST HUMANOID WEAPON : Yoshitsuna (Yoshi) It's the Rank 40 sword. It has a range of 5, and awesome stats. To get one, you need to go through all 100 floors in a Legendary Cosmic Blade or in another Yoshi, and steal it from the Item God (or Item God 2) there. Since the IG and IG2 are extremely powerful, it is HIGHLY recommended to exit on floor 99 and save, then reenter and beat the last 2 floors. DO NOT exit on floor 100, because if you do so, the IG won't have a Yoshi anymore when you reenter. You don't need to go through the 99 first floors at once. To get a Legendary Cosmic Blade, if you're lucky, you can steal one from the enemies in the Item World or get one in the Bonus Gauge. If you're unlucky, you can steal it from the IG on floor 100 in a Legendary Amano Hahakiri (same recommendations as the Yoshi). BEST STAT-BOOSTING EQUIPMENT : Super Robot Suit (SRS) You can steal it from Baal (optional boss) or from the Item God 2 in another SRS (same stuff as the Yoshi). BEST OTHER EQUIPMENT : Hyperdrive (HD) This item enables the character who equips it to teleport anywhere on the map. You get it the first time you kill an Item God 2. It appears automatically in your inventory (or in the shop if your inventory is full). You can get more HDs by stealing them from the Item God 2 in another HD (same stuff as the Yoshitsuna). BEST MONSTER WEAPON : Nemesis Mark-I Just like the SRS, you can steal it from Baal or from the Item God 2 in another Nemesis Mark-I. ============== Q : Where can I get a legendary Amano Hahakiri ? Q : The same way you can get any other Legendary item : either by stealing it from an enemy or by getting it in a Bonus Gauge. The quickest way (if you're strong enough) would be to beat Beauty of Evil (the map where you get Marjoly) and then get back there until the sword-wielding Majin has a LAH (he always has an AH, but its Rarity is random) ============== Q : What are Ranks, Rarity and Level ? A : Rank is a way of measuring how good an item is (a Rank 10 sword is more powerful than a Rank 4 sword). The lowest Rank is 1 and the highest is 41. There are very few Rank 41 Items, though, and they're already lv 100 when you get them. Rarity determines whether an item is Normal, Rare or Legendary. Rare items have higher stats and more Residents than Normal items, and Legendary items have even higher stats and even more Residents. Rarity can be anything in a range of 0-255 (the lower, the better). Rarity 0-7 = Legendary (the name of the item flashes gold) Rarity 8-32 = Rare (the name of the item flashes silver) Rarity 33-255 = Normal (the name of the item doesn't flash) Level starts at 0 for every item, and it increases everytime you clear a floor in the Item World of this item ("clear" = "get to the exit" OR "defeat all enemies"). The higher the level, the better the stats of the item. The maximum level for an item is 30 for Normal items, 60 for Rare items, and 100 for Legendary items. ============== Q : How can I know the Rank of an item ? A : You need to find an FAQ with that info because it's not available in the game. ============== Q : What's that deal with Item Gods having the next best item ? A : For every HUMANOID WEAPON (swords, axes, etc.), when you get to floor 100 FROM FLOOR 99 (it doesn't work if you Gency out at floor 100 and come back), the Item God will be equipped with the next Rank of the type of Item you're in. For instance, if you're in a R35 Sword, the IG will carry a R36 sword. If you're in a Rank 40 humanoid weapon, the IG will carry that weapon. If you're not in a humanoid weapon, the IG will carry that item. ============== Q : What is "Rarity Bonus" ? A : When a character is equipped whith several items that have the same Rarity number, those items get a boost in their stats. This boost is +10% per same-Rarity Item above the first (i.e. if all four items have the same Rarity, they all get a +30% boost). ============== Q : Is there any "one-time-only" item A : Yes, but you can get them again next time you play in a New Game +. The only exception are : - the items Marjory and Prier come equipped with when you get them - the Hyperdrive ============== 3 - ITEM WORLD ============== Q : Do I need to go through all floors at once ? A : No. You can exit and reenter whenever you want, and it won't change anything. ============== Q : Do I need to kill all enemies on each floor ? A : No. The only enemies you need to kill in order to maximize the stats gain when levelling an item are the Item Generals/Kings/Gods you encounter on floors multiple by 10 (10, 20, 30, 40, etc.). Killing an Item King or an Item God will also increase the max number of Residents for this item (no item can have more than 16 Residents, though). ============== Q : What's that "Item-levelling specialist boost" thing ? A : Every 10 floors, you encounter a boss (an Item General, King or God). If you defeat this boss, the Item you're in will get a boost in its stats depending on the Specialists that are in it at this time. The trick is that what matters here is the NUMBER of Specialists and not their level (three lv1 Gladiators is better than one lv100 Gladiator). Long story short : when you're levelling an item, 1) Fill its Specialists slots with the appropriate Specialists for the stats you want to raise. 2) Always kill the Item Generals, Item Kings and Item Gods. ============== Q : I can't find the Item God 2 ! A : IG2s only appear at floor 100 of Rank 40 Items. ============== Q : What level is the Item God 2 ? A : With no "Stronger Enemies" bills, 6933. ============== Q : I'm stuck on a floor with an unreachable exit (or enemy) ! A : Depending on the situation, you can try to 1) use the Geo Change ability of a Scout 2) lift-throw your characters 3) use attacks that have a wide range (suc as high-level spells) 4) use special attack that send the enemies away If none of the above work, then use a Mr Gency Exit and reenter : the floor will be different. ============== Q: What is the fastest way to go through the item world? A: This is what I do (obviously, it can only be done at high-level) : - have one character powerful enough to kill any normal enemy in one hit, and give him/her an Hyperdrive - give another HD to another character - enter the Item World - on every floor not multiple by 10, do the following : --> teleport your fighting character next to the exit --> if there's an anemy on the exit panel, kill it --> teleport your other HD-equipped character next to your fighting character --> lift your fighting character and throw him/her into the exit - on every floor multiple by 10, kill the Item General/King and then exit to the castle, and save before you reenter - don't forget to --> always have at least one Gency in your Inventory --> always take a Scout with you in case there's an enemy on the exit and the exit panel is an Invincibility panel --> exit and save at floor 99 Also, remember that keeping X pressed and using the D-pad speeds up the cursor. Doing so and with a little bit of training, you can blitz from floor 1 to floor 99 in about 45mn. ========================= 4 - SPECIALISTS/RESIDENTS ========================= Q : Is there a difference between a Specialist and a Resident ? A : No. ============== Q : What do Specialists do ? A : They give various bonuses. For the complete list, how they work, as well as their efficiency and level caps, see another FAQ. ============== Q : What are efficiency cap and level cap ? A : All Specialists have an efficiency cap and a level cap. The efficiency cap is the point above which their effect stops increasing. The level cap is the maximum level a Specialist can have. It's twice the efficiency cap, except for stats-raising Specialists (for them, EC = LC). For instance, Statisticians give 1% more Exp per level, and their efficiency cap is 300. It means that : - A character with a lv 100 Statistician gains twice the normal amount of Exp - A character with a lv 300 Statistician gains 4x the normal amount of Exp - A character with a lv 500 Statistician gains 4x the normal amount of Exp (because the efficiency cap is 300) - A lv 700 Statistician cannot exist (because the level cap is 600) ============== Q : Do Specialists stack ? A : Yes, but if they have a level cap, it's useless to stack them over this cap. Examples : - having three lv50 Statisticians is like having one lv 150 Statistician - having three lv100 Statisticians is like having one lv 300 Statistician - having three lv150 Statisticians is like having one lv 300 Statistician - having three lv19998 Gladiators is like having one lv 59994 Gladiator Also, for level cap issues, it doesn't matter whether or not they're on the same item : having one Statistician on your sword and another on your armor is the same as having them both on your sword. ============== Q : Should I bother maximizing every kind of Specialist ? A : It's all up to you. IMHO, the only Specialists worth maximizing are : Statistician (raises Exp gained) - efficiency cap 300 Broker (raises Money gained) - efficiency cap 300 Manager (raises Mana gained) - efficiency cap 300 Armsmaster (raises the rate at which weapon mastery increases) - eff cap 1900 Gladiator (raises Atk) - eff cap = lv cap = 19998 Sentry (raise Def) - eff cap = lv cap = 19998 If you use spellcaster or gunners/archers, you may also want to level a few Teachers (raise Int ; 19998) and Marksmen (raise Hit ; 19998). ============== Q : I heard that the only way to get a lv 19998 Specialist is to make a 9999 UNsubdued one and then subdue it. A : That's only in the Jap version. In the US and Pal releases, you can keep combining stats-raising Specialists above 9999. ============== Q : I read that the eff cap for Armsmaster is 2400. A : That's a mistake people made when the game came out. The real eff. cap is 1900. ============== Q : How do I subdue Specialists ? A : Kill them in the item world with one of your characters. They won't be subdued if they're killed by a Geo Chain or an enemy. ============== Q : I failed to subdue a Specialist and I exited the item. Can I still get this Specialist ? A : Yes. All you have to do is reenter the item and keep clearing floors until you find the Specialist. Note that if your item has reached its max level, you can't enter it anymore, in which case you lose the opportunity to subdue the remaining Specialists. ============== Q : I heard that having Specialists in an item makes it better when levelling. A : It's partially true. For each STAT-INCREASING Specialist in an item when you kill an item General/King/God, that item will get a stat boost of the same type as the Specialist (Atk for Gladiators, Def for Sentries, etc.). Note that the level of those Specialists doesn't matter ; only their number does (i.e. three lv1 Gladiator will give a better bonus than one lv 200 Gladiator). ============== 5 - CHARACTERS ============== Q : How do I unlock new classes ? A : ARCHER : Train a character until s/he has 3+ in Bow EDF SOLDIER : Train a character until s/he has 30+ in Gun ROGUE : Fighter + Warrior lv 5+ (doesn't matter if they're Male or Female) SCOUT : Fighter + Warrior (or F+F, or W+W, either Male or Female) lv 5+ KNIGHT : Female Warrior + Female Mage lv 10+ NINJA : Male Fighter + Male Warrior with a combined lv of 20+ RONIN : Female Warrior + Female Fighter with a combined lv of 20+ ANGEL : Female Cleric + Knight + Archer lv 100+ MAJIN : Male Warrior + Male Brawler + Ninja + Rogue + Scout lv 200+ Note that the required characters must exist AT THE SAME TIME. ============== Q : Do I need to use the first tier of the required classes ? A : No : you can use characters from any tier. ============== Q : Once I've unlocked a class, can I delete/transmigrate the characters I used to unlock it ? A : Yes. Once a class is unlocked, it will stay unlocked forever. ============== Q : How come I can't change the Class of ? A : Because story characters can only be Transmigrated into themselves. ============== Q : Are Rogues worth the trouble ? A : Yes. - Only them can have 99% chance of success (the others cap at 50%) - Only them (and Thursday) can steal stats - They have a much higher chance of success than the other classes of the same level (a rogue with half the level of the enemy he's robbing has almost always 99%) ============== Q : What's the best class ? A : Divine Majin. ============== Q : What's the best monster ? A : I don't know (I don't use monsters), so I'll let someone else answer (thanks, FR0Z3N FL4M3). ---------- 1) Great Wyrm because his attacks are wide-ranged and really cool lookin'. They also come in a variety of elements or non-elemental if you like. 2) Galactic Demon for his insanely high defense and resistance and some really good techniques that can hit multiple units. 3) Kit Kats because of the mystic blast. That is one seriously cheapo tech to use over and over.. and it doesn't have any ridiculous special panel placement for the kit kat. ---------- ============== Q : I can't unlock the last Prinny ! A : That's normal. The last Prinny tier is Big Sis Prinny, and it can only be unlocked with a hacking device. ============== Q : What's the best team ? A : Ten lv 9999 Divine Majins equipped with one 16-slots Yoshitsuna and three 16-slots SRS with matching Rarity and as many lv 19998 Specialists as possible. Now, stop asking stupid questions. ============== Q : How many characters/monsters can I have ? A : 104, plus the story characters. ============== Q : How can I capture monsters ? A : Throw them into your Base Pannel. When you do this, the game will simulate a battle against the monster and the characters who are still in the Base Pannel. So, to increase your chances of successfully capture monsters, you need to lower their HP and SP before you throw them in the BP. ============== Q : Can I capture bosses ? A : No. ============== Q : Can I capture humans ? A : No. And you can't capture Item Gods or IG2s, either. ============== Q : What's the deal with the Dark Assembly girl ? A : Her name is Pleinair and she's the character designer's mascot. And no, you can't recruit her as a playable character. ==================================== 6 - DARK ASSEMBLY AND TRANSMIGRATION ==================================== Q : Is there a fixed number of Senators in the Dark Assembly? A : Yes, but those who actually appear when you try to pass a bill are semi-randomly chosen amongst all of them. The "semi" part comes from the fact that the average level of the Senators who are chosen is based upon the Rank of the character who makes the proposal. ============== Q : I don't understand that bribing/liking stuff ! A : 1. Every senator has a Rarity it likes. An item with that Rarity will always be "Must-have" for that senator, no matter what item it is. An item with another Rarity will see its "wantedness" decrease based on the distance between its own Rarity and the "Must-have" Rarity. 2. The "liking-ness" is NOT shared between your characters. For instance, if you bribe a Senator with Laharl, that Senator will NOT like Etna's proposals more. 3. Bribery carries over from one session to the other. That means you can bribe the senators over and over until the all love you. Warning, though : no matter how much a senator likes a character, if that senator is killed during a "Pass by force" session, it will switch to "Loathe". ============== Q : i got more "Yeah" than "Nay" but the bill is rejected ! A : Every bill has a handicap equivalent to its Mana cost. To win a proposal, you need to get YAY >= (NAY + cost) ============== Q : I can't choose in the Dark Assembly ! A : All bills require that the total influence of the Senators for that vote session is at least equal to the Mana cost of the proposal. Also, many of them require that the character who tries to pass them is at least Rank XX at the Dark Assembly. Finally, some of the bonus area proposals require that you're at least at Episode YY. (XX and YY depend on the proposal) Q : I'm at lv XXX. Should I transmigrate ? A : It's up to you, but I think transmigration is useless before lv 150-200. And even then, you shouldn't transmigrate if you don't have a quick way to get back to the level you were before transmigrating. ============== Q : Which enemies are affected by the "Raise/Lower enemy level" bill ? A : All enemies except the those in the Dark Assembly. ============== Q : How does the "Triple Exp" bill work ? A : In the next battle, the character OR ENEMY who gets the first kill gains 3x the normal amount of Exp. ============== Q : How does the "Prinny Day" bill work ? A : In the next battle, the Bonus Gauge contains only items but you can only use Prinnies to fight. ============== Q : What's transmigration ? A : RTFM ! ============== Q : Why do people say that I should always transmigrate at Genius ? A : Because they know what's good for you. ;) Seriously, it's because doing so 1) gives you more bonus points 2) enables you to keep 95% of your previous spell mastery and weapon mastery ============== Q : Is it better to create a new character from scratch or to transmigrate ? A : Transmigrate because 1) You don't need Assembly Approval 2) You keep some of the abilities you had previously 3) You store some levels for your next transmigration ============== Q : What is that "level storage" thing ? A : Each time a character transmigrates, his/her current level is added to a grand total. Next time s/he transmigrates, that grand total is used to determine how many bonus points s/he gets. The cap for this grand total is around 185,000. ============== Q : Can I transmigrate monster to human characters (and vice versa) ? A : Yes, but you have to Transmigrate them into Prinny first. ============== Q : When transmigrating into another class, do you keep the class-specific skills ? A : No, except spells. Also, for monsters and story characters, you don't keep your special skills. ======================== 7 - ABILITIES AND SPELLS ======================== Q : How do I learn spells ? A : If the character is of a spellcasting class, s/he learns spells automatically when s/he gains levels. Otherwise, you need to create a spellcasting pupil. Then, during battle, if you stand next to that pupil, you'll be able to used the spells that the pupil knows. Simply keep using the spell until it reaches lv 1, and then you'll have it permanently. ============== Q : How do I learn Special Attacks ? A : For the story characters (Laharl, Etna, etc.), you simply need to level them. For the weapon-related SAs, you need to level your weapon mastery by using the weapon in battle. ============== Q : How do I level spells / special attacks / weapon mastery ? A : Use them in battle. A good place to do that is 5-3, because the invincible effect enables you to use them to your heart's content without killing anyone. ========================== 8 - ENDINGS AND NEW GAME + ========================== Q : How do I get the endings ? A : DARK ADONIS ENDING : Loose any battle against Mid-Boss. FLONNE ENDING : Get 50+ ally kills by the end of Episode 3, and choose "kill him" after the final battle of this episode. ETNA ENDING : Get 100+ ally kills by the end of Episode 5, and choose "kill him" after the final battle of this episode. HUMAN WORLD ENDING : Win the final battle in the Human World. GOOD ENDING : Play the whole game without any ally kill, then win the final battle. BAD ENDING 1 : Kill at least one Item God, then win the final battle. BAD ENDING 2 : Pass at least 100 bills by force at the Dark Assembly, then win the final battle. NORMAL ENDING : Win the final battle while meeting none of the above conditions. Note : if you meet the condition for both BE1 end BE2, then you'll get BE2. ============== Q : Which ending did I get ? A : (No spoilers) DARK ADONIS ENDING : You just lost a battle. FLONNE ENDING : You se feathers floathing all over the screen. ETNA ENDING : She dreams about becoming the next Overlord. HUMAN WORLD ENDING : You see an artwork of Laharl standing on the Earth. GOOD ENDING : During the credits, you see several artworks. BAD ENDING 1 : Laharl leaves. BAD ENDING 2 : You just see an artwork of the Netherworld and some text. NORMAL ENDING : After the credits, two characters notice that a Prinny has something strange on its head. ============== Q : If I meet the conditions for several endings, which one will I get ? A : - Good ending takes precedence over any other ending - Flonne Ending, Etna ending, Dark Adonis ending and Human World ending obviously are independant from the other conditions - Bad ending 1 takes precedence over Normal ending - Bad ending 2 takes precedence over Normal ending and Bad ending 1 ============== Q : What is / is not an ally kill ? A : First, "ally" = "member of your team" (Specialists are NOT considered allies). THOSE ARE ALLY KILLS : - one of your team members (TM) dies because another of your TM hit him with a weapon - one of your TM dies because s/he was in the blast radius of a spell or a special attack (including Thursday's Arigato Roboto) THOSE ARE NOT ALLY KILLS : - one of your TM dies because s/he was damaged by a Geo Chain - one of your TM dies because s/he was damaged by a Dark Cannon - one of your TM dies because s/he was damaged by an enemy - one of your TM dies because s/he was damaged by a Specialist - one of your TM is damaged by another TM, and survives - one of your TM dies because s/he was damaged by an exploding Prinny - one of your TM dies because you threw a Prinny at him/her - one of your Prinnies dies because you threw it - one of your TM dies because it took "Lift damage" - one of your TM dies because you threw an enemy in your Base Panel - Thursday dies because you used his suicide attack, Arigato Roboto ============== Q : Is there a New Game + mode ? A : Yes ============== Q : How does it work ? A : When you finish the game, after the credits roll, you can save your game. If you load this save file, you'll start again from Episode 1 with most of the stuff you had when you finished the game. ============== Q : "Most" ? What exactly is "Most" ? A : This is gonna be long TEAM MEMBERS : You keep everyone but the story characters (Flonne, Hoggmeister, etc.). Those story characters will join again when they are meant to. LEVELS : Both your characters and items kepp their respective levels. The story characters will be at their base level when you fight them, but they will be back to their "normal" level when they join you (e.g. if you beat the game with a lv 2000 Gordon, he will be lv 2000 when you recruit him in your New Game +). MANA : All of your characters and monsters keep the amount of Mana they had when you ended the game. MONEY : You keep your money. ITEMS : You keep everything except the items you equipped the story characters with. Don't worry, you'll get those items back as soon as those characters join your team. DARK ASSEMBLY : You keep everything (proposals, influence, rank, unlocked classes,...) EXCEPT 1) the proposals that apply to the next fight (Prinny Day, Triple Exp...) 2) the proposals that add new types of items in the shop (Glasses, Shoes,...) 3) the proposals that open new areas (Prinny Land, Cave of Ordeal,...) BONUS ITEMS : You can get the "bonus items" (like the Testament from Etna's secret chamber and Longinus) again. The hospital stats are not resetted, though. SHOPS : You keep your Customer Rank and the "shop level", but the "add stuff" proposals need to be passed again (see above). ENDINGS : Everything you did to unlock endings is resetted. ============== Q : After you beat the game is there a way to continue playing it without using New Game +? A : None that I know of. So, you should save right before the final map, then beat the game, then reload and do all the bonus stuff. ================= 9 - MISCELLANEOUS ================= Q : What does "Disgaea" mean ? A : "Dis" = "Not" ; "Gaia" = "Earth" ============== Q : How do you pronounce "Disgaea" ? A : "Diss-Guy-Ah". If you're unsure, listen to Etna's speach when she announces the final episode. Another way to explain it would be : - "Dis" as in "disappointed" - "ga" as in "galaxy" - "ea" as in "Ya're da best !" ============== Q : How can I get lots of money ? A : 1) Equip a lv 300 Broker and kill high-level enemies 2) Sell every item you don't need 3) Abuse the Bonus Gauge prizes 4) DON'T try to pass the "Gimme Money" proposal at the Dark Assembly ============== Q : What is the best place to level-up ? A : From easiest to hardest (Episode - Map) : 1) 5 - 3 2) 7 - 1 3) 9 - 1 4) 10 - 1 5) 12 - 3 6) Final - 1 7) Cave of Ordeals - 3 8) Beauty Castle - 2 9) Item World ============== Q : How can I level up a Cleric easily ? A : Give him/her a mage pupil and have him/her learn a few offensive spells. You can also make him/her participate in team attacks and have him/her on the battlefield when you win a battle with Exp bonus in the Bonus Gauge. And of course, don't forget to give your Cleric a lv300 Statistician. ============== Q : How can I increase the percentage of success for my Team Attacks ? A : That percentage increases if : - the characters are master or pupils to each other - the characters are of the same class - the characters are equipped with the same weapon Also, some story characters have fixed percentage of success for Team Attacks that involve them both. ============== Q : How can I kill XXX ? A : Wrong place to ask. ============== Q : What is the max for each stat ? A : 21,474,836 If you try to go above this, then the stat will be 1. ============== Q : How do I steal ? A : 1) Buy or find stealing hands 2) Put them in you inventory (DON'T try to equip them : you can't) 3) Use them in battle against the enemy you wanna rob ============== Q : What determines the chances of stealing ? A : - The class of the character (Thieves are much better than the other classes) - The Hand you use to steal - The rarity of the item you're stealing - The difference between the levels of the stealing character and the target (this is the most important parameter) ============== Q : Can I steal items from enemies created with the Clone Geo-effect ? A : No. ============== Q : Can I use Geo Change more than once during a battle ? A : No. Even if you use two scouts. ============== Q : What is the easiest way to do long Geo Chains ? A : 1) Find a color that has Geo Panels but no Geo Symbol 2) Put every Geo Symbol on panels of this color (don't forget that the Null GS must be the farthest from the GS with which you'll start the combo) 3) Destroy one of the GS 4) Sit back and watch ============== Q : The stat bonus I get is different depending on which Item I put my Specialists in ! A : That's normal : the stats of your weapon get a bonus based on your Weapon Mastery level (for monsters, it's the level of the monster). So, if you put say a Gladiator in your weapon, your Atk stat will get a higher boost than if you put the same Gladiator in your armor. ============== Q : Which stat is used to calculate the damage ? A : Bow : (Atk + Hit) 2 Gun : Hit Other weapons : Atk Spells : Int Weapon skills : Same stat as the weapon Character/Class-specific skills : Depends on the skill (see another FAQ) ============== Q : How do I increase Weapon Mastery ? A : Every time a character uses a weapon, it gets a set amount of WM points (depending on its class and the number of Armsmaster levels he's equipped). The most efficient way to raise weapon mastery is to have two characters whack each other while standing on invicibility panels. Also, the Armsmaster Specialist increases the number of mastery points you get (+1% of your normal gain per Armsmaster level ; efficiency cap is 1900). ============== Q : I have a character with 25+ Spear Mastery, yet I can't get Longinus ! A : Enter and exit the Dark Assembly, then speak to Longinus again. ============== Q : Is there a way to gain more Skills Mastery points ? A : Unfortunately, no. ============== Q : Some NPCs in the castle turned into gravestones ! A : That's because you killed them in the Dark Assembly. Save your game and reload to bring them back. ============== Q : Is it possible to win that fight against the other overlord ? A : Yes, if you are overlevelled. But actually, you're supposed to lose. ============== Q : What's on the blackmail picture ? A : Nobody knows except maybe the game makers.
